Title: Downloads and 6.180
Post by: sonar2000 on March 20, 2012, 01:46:48 PM
I have put the 6.180 in the downloads for the 1198, 1197 and the 998.
You will see both the 6.180 and the long name in the downloads for the time being.

As far as the name the unit knows nothing. It will see a .BIN file on the sd card and then open the file. From there it will determine if the file is for this unit and at what level.

You could call the file anything you want. but to be able to keep track of level release the unit type and release identifier seems a good way to know what is what..

Let me know of any problems with the downloads from this site.

Title: Re: Downloads and 6.180 = Problem with 1198 - interlink and new software
Post by: bobby on April 02, 2012, 08:40:20 PM
?? - Is there any way to pc connect into an 1198 that has the start loop loading problem?  Tried to connect and even reload from SD but the unit loops before I can select load software from the green menu... more history below

I have an interlink problem - after updating to the latest update version. 6.180 the start up loop started happening to my 1198.  It was fine and the problem was with the 997..See 997c problem after update... but after getting the 997 back from HB I put it on the netwotk and things went south

http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=3442.msg22335#msg22335 (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=3442.msg22335#msg22335)

After endless effort to resolve the 997 problem HB kindly took it back and checked it out, they said it had corrupt waypoints which was causing the crash.  I got the 997c back from HB with instructions to set it up. I deleted all corrupt waypoints, there were several, and corupt no-named routes, tracks and waypoints.  As soon as I did the step which required locking the waypoints, both units, the 997 and the 1198, rebooted and went into the unending start loop.  I was able to go back into the 997c with the View/power button startup progam sequence and then reloaded from humminbird PC, back one version then updateing to the current . The 997 now works but no way will I connect it to the interlink with this software version. I can tell you that the interlink was totally erased so nothing corupt on it.  HB thought that perhaps the interlink is bad but it worked fined with the earlier version software.

Calli1...the 6.180 and the long name are the same code except for the 898.
6.180 and the long name starting with aeb are the same and are the correction to the long name starting with 407 which had issues.....
I hope that HB will go back to the old way of identifying code releases so we can know what is what and for which...

Just got off the phone the HB,,, the 1198 and the interlink headed back to them. Apprerntly there is no way to get into the programming 1198 like you can with the 998.

dont you just like the standard between HB units.
You would think there would be some commonality between these devices at least within the release date and especially the new '98 series.
Sending into HB for what a pc connect could fix is not good for image.
Especially with ethernet connect being touted so much.
I dont understand this at all..

Bobby; let us know what HB tells you about their fix..

I'll post,  tonight when I get home, the procedures they sent to me so others can see what to look for regarding corrupt waypoints.  My question was, "Those waypoints wern't corrupt overnight, the dates on some are several years old, why now do they lock up my units?" You can look in your on waypoints a determine if you have a corrupt one, if it has no name, if the name is meaningless, like letters or symbols,,, etc..  Will post later today.  My suggestion, the new waypoint handling software, that is one of the only variables, that and the interlink could have failed...

I think the newer software is way more sensitive to waypoint errors than older
versions.  I found that you can also have duplicate waypoint names.

It sucks that you had to send your machine back to HB.
I hope it all works out.

Unfortunately to move forwards with new features and functions in our units it was decided that we would go to a new program language.  This is the reason that HumminbirdPC will not work with the newer larger units like the 898 and 998 units.

The Waypoint Management software is (to coin a phrase) “more sensitive” to illegal waypoint names than previous versions of software.  How do waypoints get corrupted?  I don’t know but this is why I recommend to always save a copy of your waypoints on your computer.  BTW: you could always have duplicate waypoint names.

Does this mean that for any lockup problem we will now have to send to HB for service.
How is this a move forward?  It seems a step back.
Could you not give us a hard rest as with other devices..

Not a good change HB.. :-[

I do see the value in change in codeing, like quicker response time, less coding required less hd space more capabilty. Our challange and HBs, will be that when a simple thing like a corrupt waypoint causes the power loop lock up and our only solution is to return to HB then we will need an alternative proccess to delete the waypoints.  Mine were backed up to an HD so I've lost nothing but once the unit locks... off we go to fed x and that will get to be a problem.  Right now HB has been very kind in dealing with it but they can't afford to keep shipping and working on units for software glitches... I go back to my earlier suggestion to have HB figure out the remote access for a nominal fee.

Bobby I agree. With ethernet and pc it shoyuld be a simple process of connecting your unit to your pc and hgave HB diagnose the problem over the internet.
Again these things are nothing more than computers and we do that all the time with our laptops and desk units..
Even a reasonable fee for this service is better than shipping and transportation time..which equals
loss of water time.

What is the latest software update for a 998c SI that will work with Humminbird PC? I have too many files that always changes some of the icons after working on them with Humminbird PC. Will Humminbird PC ever be updated to work with the newer updates and coding?

albe,
I believe this is what you are asking about:
22. Corrects issue in Waypoint Management where a waypoint was being indexed by +1 because of the addition of the Spot-Lock Waypoint.User should no longer have to adjust their waypoint icons due to this correction.

This is from the FAQ page on the Humminbird web site for the 6.640 and 6.680 software.

What are you meaning by: “Will Humminbird PC ever be updated to work with the newer updates and coding?”

I put in update 6.680 in my 998c SI because I do not have 6.640.

It seems like the waypoints are now correct. BUT!!!!!! Now I have NO GPS CONNECTED popup showing on my screen. When I go to Accessories screen the GPS line blinks CONNECTED - UNCONNECTED.

Went back to V. 6.420 and now have the GPS back. Is anybody else having trouble loosing their GPS when updating to 6.680?
Could you send me V. 6.420 to try? Could you also send me a list of what the updates were for this update only.

I deleted all Navigation Data; formated the Nav Directories and Reset Defaults before I updated to 6.680. I shut off unit and restarted it before putting in my SD card with the 6.680 update on it. After my unit restarted, I reset the Defaults again. That's when the popup started showing up on my screen.

albe, Where you outside where the GPS Receiver could lock onto the GPS satellite signals?
Which GPS Receiver are you using with your 998c Si unit?

Send me a direct e-mail (not a private message) asking for the software and description of the listed changes for it.  Be specific in the version and what model this is for.
