2nd Damaged Si transducer wire. Any chance of repair

Hi lads, this is the 2nd time this has happend.

So I'm £600 down :(

It's in salt water, cable has plenty of play.

But again, its corroded away in the same spot.

Is there anything I can do? The quality is so poor for this to happen.

I have fair success with Goop Marine glue on the cable strain relief grommet to protect the grommet from wear  ...

I have never ventured into trying to repair wiring in the xducer housing  ...

Heh.. this is a poor quality product!

I have replaced two transducers in less than 8 years... The problem is that humidity and water enter (where gromet is) into the transducer and the galvanic current will "eat" the aluminium shield and you will get "snow" on the screen.. What I have done is that I have put a "plastic" tube over the cable and fixed and filled it with epoxy resin (tube cca 10cm in length). In this way, there is less possibility for the water to enter the transducer.  If you compare Humminbird transducer with Lowrance or Garmin you will notice the difference...


The green object represents the plastic tube.. I have fixed it with epoxy and filled it with epoxy.. You can also try to weld the plastic tube and then fill it with epoxy..

Good idea Peter  ...

I’ve often wonderEd if the rubber grommet is made from a rubber type that just doesn’t hold up to the elements  ...

I even use Goop Marine on my brand new xducers rubber grommet simply because I expect the rubber grommet to deteriorate over time  ...
