Merry fisher 805 SI transducer location
« on: January 31, 2017, 12:50:28 PM »
Hi.

Looking at putting it on the starboard side. Beetween anode and exhaust. Is this ok?

Will the left beam hit the anode? Hangs about 4" off aft.

Cheers

My concern is either Port or Starboard install, you will lose one half of your signal because of the turbulence from the prop and rudder.  I'm guessing you will end up with a Port AND Starboard transducers hooked together with a "Y" cable.  Wait for more feedback before you go this route.

I agree with Mike ... Out drive boats will most likely need the port and starboard SI xducer setup ...

Core units would need the AS SILR Y cable ...

ONIX would need the AS 14 SILR Y cable ...

There is no harm in trying the single SI xducer to see if there is blockage or water turbulence issues ...

Thanks for the replies ;)

I did have x2 on my old boat, as the rudder stuck out 6" from the aft, and the port signal bounced back from the rudder.

Could you see any turbulance issues at idle speed?

I suspect that you will, but you might be able to live with the results.  No one knows until you see the images.  Depending on the location, it might shoot underneath the trust.  If it doesn't work, at least you have a backup plan.  Good luck.

Now the decision is :  do I put the boat in the water like this to test for turbulence/ interference and run the risk of having to pay another haul out/ put in fee if the second transducer needs to be installed  OR  pay for the second transducer and install it now.  Good luck which ever way you go.
