He login up hb official site and download file fro 998CX SI then send me an update bin file which version is 6.180.  We tried to update my unit from sd card. We have put it on to unit then open it. It asked us do there is a new version 6.180 do you want to you want to update etc. we chose yes then it was starting to update. At the of update it closed and not start again. Now when we try to press open button, the power on however it show black screen. I tried to bootstrap. I press power button + view how ever it not appears any menu.  What can i do. Do you offer any idea. :( ??? ??? ???

You might download a previous version.
You can get them from this site under downloads..

then

1) Power on your unit
2) Restore Factory defaults
3) power off the unit
4) put in the sd card
5) power on the unit
6) wait until the update is done (can take a bit for the 26 mb file)
7) restore factory defaults (again)
 remove card

Dear Sonar2000

Thank you for your reply.

However my unit is not loading its software.
When I power on my unit, i just see power lights (buttons led) and there is no view anything on screen just black screen appears.

Have you tried to load a downlevel code.

How can i 'restore default' settings. There no restore default screen nor anything.

Try power off your unit.

Insert a downlevel sd card.

Power on unit.

If you still have a blank screen, try the bootstap method to restore your unit.
It appears the unit is hanging. Boot strap can help to restore..

Also make sure you are loading the USA version of code since you have that model..

Code is available here in the download section.

Hi,
The Bootstrap recovery method only works on Matrix based Legacy box's (like the 997c, 1197c, Etc.). The 998c runs on a Linux based Operating System. As far as I know there is no off site way to recover a non-operational Linux based Humminbird. In all cases I have witnessed the units had to be sent back to the factory for recovery/repair.

Good luck,
Roger

Roger, Thanks,  Darn I keep forgetting that..::)

We sure do need a bootstrap for the 98 series..
If the downgrade does not work he will have to send it back in for repair.
Hopefully he has a way to do that since it is a USA model..

Several other have posted over time about the lack of support outside of the USA.
Also it would be nice to have a hard reset function like several other manufactures of unit have.

Now I ask;
Do you have this unit connected to a known good battery? sometimes a low or poor power source will not let the unit start up.

Can you check or swap your battery or power source?

Have you tried to start the unit with out anything connected?

My power is ok. But still i tried new power source. And again it is not working.
Secondly i disconnected any other things but the result is the same.
It start to work however the lcd shows nothing, black screen!

Is there any possibility to connect my unit to a computer and start or restore over 'humminbird pc' software ??

I dont think so with the new operating system.

Raricker posted earlier that the new units would not bootstrap.

I know this is partly to the new operating code and ethernet, but it does seem that HB wants us to send in the unit.

I really dont get this locking up and no way to restore as in other manufactures products..
Kind of looks like a money maker.. ::)
Not sure where to go from here.  Lets see if any other posts hit this thread this week..

Chuck.

Do not waste your time. Send the unit to the factory. It was the same with the device.
