Finally have my new boat
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:03:07 PM »
So I finally picked up my new boat Friday 25 April. Still haven't setup my electronics. Dealer was waiting for networking hub. So I have two 899Ci HD Si one bow mounted and the other cockpit mounted. I have a transducer mounted on the transom and the front mounted to my Terrova US2 80 lb 60" with I Link. So far my cockpit and bow unit see each other but the i Link only works on the front. My first question is with only the US2 hooked up to my front 899 will I get Si and DI signal from the rear transducer when networked or will I need to add a transducer to my Terrova and not use the US2. Will this effect how my i Link works as well? Not use to having all these options.

New Boat spec's
1875 Lund Crossover
150 Merc Four stroke
9.9 Merc Bigfoot Pro Kicker
80 Lb Terrova 60 inch with i Link
Two Humminbird 899 Ci HD Si

Cheers Tom

I forgot to add that I'm running software version 6.830. I registered on Humminbird site and noticed that there is a software update for my systems and i Link should i upgrade or only upgrade if there are issues? Thanks for reading my post.

Cheers Tom

PS first out is this Friday for the Kiwanis walleye tournament in Trenton Ontario.

Tom,
With the i-Pilot Link you should update all four: both 899ci HD Si units, the i-Pilot Link Controller and the i-Pilot Link Remote.

Your troubles may go away with the software updates, but yes you should be able to use the 2D/Si/Di sonar from the rear 899ci HD Si unit up at your bow mounted 899ci HD Si unit.

Thanks Greg.

Here is another question for you. How do I hook up my motor to my 899? Is this possible with the Nema 2000 just using NMEA2K? Does there need to be something special on the motor?

Okay one more question. Should I upgrade the transducer for this unit?

Cheers Tom

Tom,
You will need whatever connection cabling there needs to be between your motor and an NMEA 2000 “backbone”.  Contact your marina or motor manufacturer for this.
You will need a powered (it has its own power connection) NMEA 2000 backbone.  Humminbird does not sell these items and I recommend contacting someone who is familiar with NMEA 2000 networks before doing this.
You will also need the AS-ETH-NMEA2K Humminbird NMEA 2000 gateway accessory.

If it were my 899ci HD Si unit I would upgrade to the HDSi transducer but then I would notice the difference in the 455kHz sonar and would want to 800kHz Si/Di sonar option.
