Wow Mark,
these are some great pictures! Looks like there's a lot of interesting locations to to dive at!
The 981 works like a charm since it's back. Gonna download some pics and post my latest results.

Great to have you here Mark!

Regards from Lake Constance
Harry

Cheers Harry, glad the 981 was fine too! Looking forward to seeing some pics of yours too.

Wizz, I don't dive anymore - the part of the UK I live in is not good for it as it is cold and with very poor visibility. I do fish however and the Side Imaging is great for showing what the areas I fish look like from the perspective of a fish; these are both areas I fish and different to what I expected from the surface.

Some interesting stuff there, Mark. Where was the freshwater location? If you ever trailer your boat up to Windermere I can give you some good locations to search (and to fish if you're after big pike or Bownessie!).

Hi Kevin, it's down on the Broads - Oulton Broad and up the waveney towards Haddiscoe to be more precise. That was the initial test run after we installed the unit. The saltwater ones were on Lake Lothing, basically the estuary from the other side of the lock at Oulton Broad up to Lowestoft harbour. We've not yet run out into the open sea with it but the area around us is littered with wrecks and there is a sunken town 30 miles down the coast that still has plenty of structure (Dunwich). I fancy the bay near Manston in Kent - this was a large RAF station during the war and had a long and wide runway so became by default one of the main emergency landing grounds...many aircraft didn't make it there.

There are rumours of Sunderland Flying Boats sunk in Windermere from the end of the war...don't know if it's true or not but would be a coup if you located them.

Hi Mark,
A lovely area, The Broads- had a couple of sailing holidays there when I was a kid. (They also make my dream boat, Broom 53, near to you. If only the lottery would come up!!)

Sunderland flying boats were made in White Cross Bay, a five minute cruise from my berth, however I think the rumours of a Sunderland in the Lake are just that. The famous underwater picture of one, a few years ago, was a hoax done by a diver using a plastic model. I think the story stems from an account from a worker at the factory, who said that there were two aircarft moored on the Lake one evening and that they were gone in the morning. He believed that they had been sunk, as the War had ended and there was no further need for them. I reckon that they were just flown off somewhere else! Many, many people have searched the Lake for them without success and even though visibility is only about 5-10 feet for divers, someone would have picked them up by now. However, the area near Wray Castle, that's mentioned is 220 feet deep!

I'm sure you'll have much more luck in searching for sunken aircraft than me. My main project is to find the boat (and body) of Bill Shakespeare. http://people.dsv.su.se/~klas/Boats/History/history.html (http://people.dsv.su.se/~klas/Boats/History/history.html)
