GPS via ethernet
« on: March 15, 2013, 03:07:48 AM »
I have a question about using the AS GR50 GPS that comes with thye 1198cx si.  Is it possible to share the GPS signal via ethernet without having the 1198 power on?  We will have a 5 port ethernet hub and want to connect our 2 motors as well as a Icom M504 Marine VHF Radio, GPS speedometer and a MDVR21SD Recorder to the system.  Can someone Please tell me if this is possible and what would I need to do it.
Thanks
Darryl

No, the unit powers the GPS reciever and the unit would not be sending any data out over ethernet if powered down.

Are you trying to set up a NMEA 2000 network? If you dont have any other Humminbird Units, you would not need the HB 5 port ethernet, you could just hook the HB NMEA 2000 Module directly to the 1198.

The HB will not share HB GPS or anything over NMEA 2000 network, only receive info from other devices.

The following diagram is what we are trying to accomplish.  Is this doable?

You will need a NMEA2K gps as well as the GR 50. The gr50 or the HB unit will not put anything on the nmea2k network you can not even connect it to the network only the unit itself.
