798 CI SI Starting in some sort of BOOT Menu??? Help Please.
« on: March 18, 2012, 12:02:32 AM »
Hi

I just bought a Humminbird 798 CI SI and installed it on my Pontoon boat.  Powered it on and all I get is the words LOADING on screen. I fooled around with the buttons and ended up hitting View and holding for a sec and it went into this DOS looking Boot menu.

I did have a map card and a blank SD card installed when I turned in on and got the "LOADING" ... I am starting to think that the loading thing was caused by the cards as I tested the unit on my test bench (computer geek) and all worked fine in the demo mode etc.

I sure hope I dont have to send this thing in for reseting. Is there a way to reset to factory defaults?

Thanks for all your help.

Ray

Ray go to your main menu and tab over to setup then go down the list to restore defaults.
You usually have to wait awhile for your map cards to load so hopefully that's all it is...

Hi
Thanks for the answer but I am unable to get the unit off the black screen with old typewriter style font like DOS on a PC if you are familiar with that.

I am stuck in that BOOT MENU screen  I will attach a pic of the screen. Thanks.ila_rendered

Pull the cards out and don't put them back in until you get this sorted.
Try pressing the view and the power buttons at the same time and then shut the unit down if it will.
Disconnect from power completely and then plug it back in and see if it will start up without the boot screen showing.
If it starts back up normally then reset defaults and go from there.
Install your map card only and give it time to fully load the maps.

If this does not work then you'll need to call HB in the morning and see if they can help....

Hi

I tried the view and power at the same time and no avail.  I guess I will have to call HB Monday. Thanks.

If this is new, I am wondering if factory test code is still installed..

Hi, I have a 788ci and now have the same issue.  In my case I was travelling and came across a couple of thumper waves when the screen went black with the DOS type script and BOOT screen.  I cannt move it, comes straight backk on after shutting power etc. How did you fix yours?  Did you end up fixing it?
