connecting 1199ci HD SI to 898c SI
« on: April 05, 2015, 12:53:20 PM »
I posted this on the 1199 site but got no response. Is this just a stupid question? Ok I'm new to this but here goes. I have a 898c SI at the console of my triton bass boat. I was looking at a 1199ci HD SI and was wondering if I could put my 898 up front by my trolling motor and put the 1199 at my console and are they compatible to hook together with the Ethernet cable to share info? What all could they share together if they can and can I use the transducer that I have for my 898c SI for both of them? Also I have a hockey puck type of antenna mounted for my 898 gps will this work both units? I thought I saw that the 1199 had a built in antenna for gps but can it use another or can my 898 use the one in the 1199? I know these are a lot of questions but I really can use some help. Thanks

Sorry, I have not gotten to your other post yet but will copy my response below there as well.

“I was looking at a 1199ci HD SI and was wondering if I could put my 898 up front by my trolling motor and put the 1199 at my console and are they compatible to hook together with the Ethernet cable to share info?”
Yes you can.

“What all could they share together if they can and can I use the transducer that I have for my 898c SI for both of them?”
Let’s see, they can share water temperature, 2D and Si sonar, GPS Receivers, waypoints and some accessories (you did not mention any in your post).

“Also I have a hockey puck type of antenna mounted for my 898 gps will this work both units?”
Yes, the external GPS Receiver can be connected to either unit and used by either unit.

“I thought I saw that the 1199 had a built in antenna for gps but can it use another or can my 898 use the one in the 1199?”
Yes, the 1199 has an internal GPS Receiver which can be shared to the 898 unit.

“I know these are a lot of questions but I really can use some help.”
No problem with the questions, it’s how we all learn!

Thanks Greg, I am also putting a minnkota ulterra with I-pilot link on and want to connect that also. could you tell me what all I will need in cables to do this? I think I might need the 5 port hub to connect the trolling motor is that correct?

Correct.  You will need the AS-ETH-5PXG 5-Port Ethernet Switch.
You will also need an Ethernet Connection Cable (AS-EC-XXE) to connect each unit to the 5PXG Switch.  The AS-EC-XXE cables come in different lengths and the cable length is part of the part name.  They come in 2,  10,  15,  20 and 30-foot lengths, so just replace the “XX” with the cable length.  Example: a two foot cable would be an AS-EC-2E, while a fifteen foot cable would be an AS-EC-15E.  When you measure the cable length, please allow extra distance for the cable having to run vertically and around spars, or anything else along its intended pathway.

The 1199 unit has a different shaped Ethernet connector, so you will need one AS-EC-QDE Ethernet Adapter Cable to connect it.

You will also need to make sure that the software for both units and the iPilot Link Controller and Remote are updated.

if I wanted to just run an Ethernet cable between both units without the I-pilot do both units have the same plug on each or do I need some other type of cable with different ends or an adapter

The 898 and 1199 units have different Ethernet connectors on them.  So in addition to the one AS-EC-XXE cable that you will need, you will also need one AS-EC-QDE Ethernet Adapter Cable (which I forgot above, so went back and added it…).

If I just connect the two units together without the I-pilot do I still need to do a software update and if so what would be the best version to use?

That would depend on what software version each unit is running.
The currently available of course!
