957 c transducer problems
« on: January 16, 2011, 02:32:08 AM »
Hello all,  new to site .My name is Bob.  I have a 957c, have had it for four years. In the past few months its developed a clicking sound where the transducer plugs into the back of the head unit. and the sonar runs very thin(bottom soundings)temp goes all over the place, I could  jiggle the connector around and it will fix the problem .Now i have to put a wedge in between the plug to keep the sonar and temp to read correctly. I have tried contact cleaner on both sides and elec. grease ,and still i have to wedge something in there to keep it working.

Do i need a new transducer or send it in for a new plug on the head unit or both?

Thanks for your time.

Bob,

Welcome to the forum.

The Humminbird connectors have a tendency to lose contact sometimes.  Not sure about the clicking noise, but what I can recommend is to gently (very gently) bend the pins slightly outward.  This will help tighten the connection and make better contact.

If you have a cable collector for your unit, I highly recommend using it.  It will keep the connectors from wiggling around and loosening the connection.

Hope this helps,

Robert
