Hello and help with 800 series
« on: April 14, 2015, 10:55:49 PM »
I am new to the forum. Thanks for having me.

I just bought new 899 SI and 859 units. I fished the Detroit R on Sunday and the SI was amAzing. I was able to darken the image a bit and pick out white slashes or pods of fish and the actually catch them a couple times:)

My unit started acting up though when I had the 859 on as well. It seemed to take over my 899 unit or remove the SI view completely from my 899. When I turned off the 859 the SI view would again be there on my 899!!?? Of course in my garage the next day it was fine. Lol. I checked all my settings?!

And - I also could not see me jig very often directly below the 859 transducer (dual beam puck on troll motor). I expected it to pick up my bait better.

I have the two connected thru ethernet and 7.020 on my units and also have the 800 kHz washout problem unfortunately. Do I send my unit directly to Humminbird USA seeing as I am in Canada? And how will 800 help me/when is it useful, (marking fish, shallow water...????)

Anyone have any ideas or help i these issues?

Thanks
Landry

Welcome to the Humminbird Side imaging Forums Landry.  Sounds like you are already using your Side Imaging unit to help put fish in the boat!

Question on your 899 unit: did you swap the Compact Side Imaging transducer for the larger HDSi transducer?
You would need to contact your local (Canadian) dealer for the 800kHz washout issue.  I don’t know how they are handling these outside the U.S.A.

I would update the software in both units (7.460 is the latest), than reset the menus back to the factory settings, and check the Ethernet connectors to make sure that they are still plugged in correctly.

Oops!  Sorry about not answering the other parts there…
I meant to ask: is this an 859ci HD unit or is it the Down Imaging 859ci HD DI model?  I will answer assuming (Uh-Oh!) that it is the 2D model 859ci HD unit.

In that water depth you could use either the “200kHz” or the “200/83kHz” Bean Select menu setting.  SwitchFire menu set to “Max Mode”.  Set the Surface Clutter menu to as high of a numerical setting (shows more clutter) as you can stand it.  The Noise Filter menu needs to be set as low as you can (or turn it off).

I was out again today and got the 859 at the bow marking my jig well using mode - pretty sure the prob was interference from the 899 but used the quick sonar off feature to alleviate that.
I am very happy with the units. Everything was sorted out and working perfectly. Glad I bought them. Gonna see about fixing the 800 kHz problem late next fall when I stop fishing.
Thanks Greg.
