998c si hd with y cable and 787c2i transducer
« on: June 09, 2014, 12:30:18 PM »
Hi there,

Running a 998 on a Harbercraft (aka Kingfisher) boat, and getting the typical poor results at speed - it seems to cut out altogether at about 25 km/h or 15 mph. I have a couple questions.

1. Installation tips. I have the tip of the HDSI transducer a good 1/4" below the transom mounting block. Angled a little back. The hull in this area is not straight, it sort of curves up at the very back. Any tips to get better results on plane?

2. After realizing I could do it, I bought the y cable and will reinstall the old 787c2i transducer so I can get 2d sonar on plane. My question is: will I always have to switch back and forth to do side imaging, or will it sort of take care of itself? I can't seem to yet find specific setup instructions and some mention having to switch back and forth every time they go on plane or off plane.

Any replies will be appreciated - this is a tremendous resource. Thanks.

jjmoney,
1. You would have to post some pictures of the transom area of your boat for those of us who are not familiar with what a Harbercraft (Kingfisher) boat hull and transom look like.

2. With the AS-Si-DB-Y cable there is no need for switching.  This cable disconnects the 2D sonar from the Si transducer and reroutes it to the 2D transducer (the 787c2i’s transducer for your application).  If they are having to switch something they must be using a transducer switch instead of the AS-Si-DB-Y cable.

Alright Greg, I will do just that, and it sounds like it should work. Thank you for the reply.

I won't be at the lake until about the 28th or so, so it will be 3 weeks before I can take proper pictures of the transom c/w all the goodies.

I really appreciate you chiming in. Stay tuned!

Jason
