For Greg and others users with 1198 c HD SI and 1197 c SI
« on: March 30, 2014, 08:00:58 AM »
Hello
When units are not ethernet connected.
Soft 6.310 for 1197 c SI
Soft 6.490 for 1198 c HD SI
In 2 D view

With following settings on 1197 c SI
Sensitivity 13
Chart speed 10
Switchfire mode max
Frequency 200/83 kHz
Depth set to auto or manual
Noise filter 0
Screen is nice

With same settings on 1198 c HD SI
My screen is horrible
Have lines from bottom to surface as sonar noise
Need to set
Sensitivity to 7 and less
And sometimes noise filter
to have nice screen...

When i change units
1198 instead of 1197
I use the same cable collector(power cable is PC-11)
And so same transducer...(tried with other transducer but same thing)...

Is it normal ?
Is software or 1198 more sensitivity ?

Thanks for help

Do both units have the PC-11?

It is not unusual for different software versions to require different settings and even more so (not unusual) across model numbers...

The 1197 and the 1198 have different processors..(I think each even has a completely different operating system)...

Can you post some screenshots for diagnosis...??

Maybe there is something amiss in the 1198 more than just settings differences...

Again few comments about my screenshots:

In second picture
The sonar return near 25 m is my lure(20 grammes)

Main motor was of
My minnkota power drive was stoped too,i even tried changing it...
Nothing electrical was runing on boat
I use a dedicated battery for my units
Unplugged my battery charging system from it

When i set noise filter high  it´s better but not perfect
When i set 83 khz sensitivity at -3 or -4 better too

I tried to reset to default settings and same problem
Is it noise ?
If yes, from where and why not on the screen of my 1197 c SI ?
Is it my 1198 c HD SI unit out ?

I m coming crazy.

I have the same units. The 1198 is more sensitive. You must use different settings for each. I have read your posts and I still think there is cross-talk. It looks like what I see when both units are sending pings. Not sure how that could be but it looks that way. I have my units ether-netted together to eliminate that possibility. Good luck and post the final solution. Bob

It looks like sonar cross-talk interference to me too.  If not sonar than some other type of repeating interference.  I don’t know what it could be though if all electronics and the motors were turned off.

Is it feasible for you to disconnect everything from the batteries and test the 1198 as the only electrical device connected...??

It could be ANYTHING electrical that is in close proximaty to
the unit, or the unit's wiring.
