Connecting 998 to Helix 9 G3N
« on: January 08, 2022, 05:24:49 PM »
Hi Guys and all the best for the new year!

Long time - no see, I know  :)

I got a used HELIX 9 G3N today which I want to connect to my good old 998 SI on the boat.
The plan is to use the 998 for navigation and the HELIX for wreck hunting.

As far as I understood it is possible to share the Navigation data between the two units when I connect them with an ethernet cable, right?

The reason I ask is because I found out that the HELIX has a MICRO SD card slot. So my Navionics SD card from the 998 wouldn't fit in  :o Therefore I want to use the 998 with the Navionics SD Card and the HELIX for recordings. A blank micro SD card for recordings is more affordable than buying a new Navionics Micro SD card (158 Euro).

Any reason which speaks against it?

Regards from Germany/Harry

Wow good to see you again  ...

HELIX 9 G3N will share waypoints with 998  ...mapping will not share  ...

It is also possible to share fixed frequency 2d Sonar by turning off CHIRP in the HELIX  ...

Hi Ricky,

damm right: Good to be back!  ;D

Thanks for advice!

I will go out on monday to verify three new contacts. I am curious how the HELIX will perform against the good old 998.
If the diffence ist the same like between my first 981 and the 998 I will be the happiest camper on earth  :D

Hopefully I can get the new contacts confirmed as wrecks  ;)

Hello Harry

Nice that you are back in the forum.
You don't actually need to network your 998 with Helix if you just want to use the 998 for navigation.
I'm also looking forward to comparing pictures of the two units.

Hi Rüdiger,

yezz, good to be back!

I am a bit "irritated" that the HELIX is only accepting MICRO SD cards. I will propably go for two adapter cables from Micro SD to regular SD cards. If I can make records on the  998 with the data from the HELIX, it would be the easiest way to fix the problem.

Regards/Harry
