Title: 1197 Tracks & Waypoints Problems
Post by: Senkotarheel on April 03, 2010, 12:32:26 AM
Spent the last couple days fishing and I am puzzled with my new 1197. The track I was fishing all day was on the screen, but when I went to save the current track, it would then just disappear and when I went to retrieve it, the unit said there were no saved tracks available. The same thing is happening when I mark waypoints. After saving a waypoint and then asking the 1197 to route me to that waypoint, the unit is telling me there are no waypoints to route to. Where is this information going to after I save it. Hopefully I'm just doing something wrong. A little bit frustrating to say the least.  Hopefully this is not another Navionics Platinum East compatibility problem. Thanks for any assistance, Jason

Jason,

Welcome to the forum.  Did the unit come with 4.750 or did you update the software after you got it?  You may need to roll back the software to the previous version, then reinstall version 4.750.

Have you tried to export the Nav Data to an SD card and view it in Humminbird PC to see if it is there?

Robert

Do you have a SD card in and is it unlocked ? Also did you reset factory defaults after your upgrade ?

Alright, I guess all of the above is the answer for some of this.  When I bought the 1197 at Bass Pro Shops, the Humminbird rep. was there and was nice enough to upgrade the software for me to version 4.75, which I thought was quite nice of him.  I have not tried to export the Nav. data to the SD card but will do that the next time I'm on the boat.  Suppose I'll have to download and install Humminbird PC on the computer, which I have also not done.  Is rolling the software back to the original a big deal?  I don't have a problem doing it if that's what is necessary.  Just a bit frustrated at this point.  My Lowrance 111HD has never given me any issues whatsoever over the 4 1/2 years I've had it.  I hope I can get this resolved.

Senko,
If there was a problem with the new software that was loaded; rolling back to an older version allows you to download a fresh copy and load it into the unit again.  This may or may not fix your problem.

I believe you are experiencing a similar problem to what I've seen. Take the 2010 Navionics card out of the unit and try to save waypoints and routes. They should now be retained after a reboot. While the card was in the unit, I could not save new waypoints or delete old waypoints. Removing the card is the workaround.

I wonder if these nav cards are "write" protected or read only cards.  This may be preventing the saving the points.  I say this because with out the card in ...........the unit does what it is supposed to do.
Could be that HB code does not save internal if a nav card is used.  Or recognize the card has "write" space.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I have previously asked Navionics about the write protect on the map card.  The cards are supposed to come from the factory write protected but this may not always be the case.  You should check the card and make sure the write protect slider is in the locked position.  According to the CSR the card is not 'read only'.

If I remember correctly the map card should be installed in the left slot and the writable SD card in the right slot.  Not sure what difference it make but i vaguely recall reading this in the manual or on the Humminbird FAQs.

Chris (ctcahoe) was nice enough to send me some information from the testing he has done with his 2010 Platinum East map card and 1197 unit.  I have sent this on to Engineering for them to review and comment on.  Hopefully we will hear something back next week on this.  I don’t know if this is limited to the East card or in all of the 2010 Platinum cards.  Anyone else with an 1197 out there that has another 2010 Platinum card in another region have this problem?

If the card does not have the write protect slider tab then the map might be encrypted to prevent write over or copy......  Kinda like acrobat reader and the PDF files.   If the card is in the left slot and the writeable card is in the right slot then the HB code may be getting confused.   Some of the cards can be map protected but the available space left is there for recordings.
It does appear that there is a direct relationship between the card and the HB  since it works fine without the card.
This will be interesting to see what the HB code folks think.

All waypoints should be written to internal storage until the user chooses to export them. At that point, the HB should be smart enough to not even attempt to write the data to a card that has charts on it. I'm anxious to see if other users can reproduce the issue with different regions of the 2010 Navionics cards.

I am using a Platinum Plus Marine card MSD/642.  I have had other issues with the card but no problems saving waypoints or using them in routes.  I have not tried to save any tracks.  My problems have been disappearing spot soundings and contour lines and the lack of map data.

I am having the same issue with my 2010 platinum east card in the 1197, has a fix been found yet?

The software to allow the 2010 Platinum mapping cards to work with the 1197 has not been released yet.
