Title: couple of ?????
Post by: lowerunit on June 10, 2014, 07:55:33 PM
I just bought a 998 HD I plan on using it at the console and move the 898 side imaging unit up to the front of the boat. Do I need to change the puck and transducers? Or can I use the 898s puck and transducer on the 998 and just put the new ones up front? Also I want to ethernet them, so if I mark a waypoint on the front unit does it use the front puck as reference? and will the 998 at the console have the same reference? OK now Im confusing myself. Ant help would be appreciated Thank you.

No, the same “puck” (GPS Receiver), transducers, power cable, mounting bracket and cable holder all are the same between the 898 and 998 HD units.

When Ethernet connected and you mark a waypoint with the front unit it will use the coordinates of the GPS Receiver that is connected to the front unit.  preferably the GPS Receiver for the front unit is mounted close to the transducer that the front unit is using as well.  The 998 unit will have the same coordinates as a reference even though it is using a different GPS Receiver.

Each unit having its won GPS Receiver, with that GPS Receiver being mounted as close to directly over the transducer that it is using will make for the most accurate waypoints.
