Title: Attention Greg - Possible Corrupted Memory on my 1197
Post by: ITGEEK on September 28, 2011, 11:26:22 AM
Hi Greg.
I've had problems viewing recordings on my 1197c with
software version 5.500 and the new 5.840.
I recently had a message 'not enough memory to load waypoints', or something
like that.  I have less than 1,000 waypoints.
I initially thought that the problem was with the software updates, but I now
think that my machine has some type of corrupted memory.

Here's my theory:
I think that in the process of adding waypoints, modifying waypoints,
deleting waypoints, and doing sofware upgrades on the unit, that
the memory gets corrupted or some of it get's frozen out or locked up.

HB customer support told me that they have tested the new version without
any problems viewing recordings.
They told me to bring my waypoings into HumminbirdPC
so that they could be validated.  I then went through and deleted any
ones I didn't need.  I then deleted all waypoints from my unit and
loaded in the new DATA.HMR file.

When I'm viewing a recording and press any of the arrow keys to
freeze the frame, I don't see a cursor so that I can make
new waypoints.  The whole system freezes up and I have to
stop the recording to unfreeze it.

I'm sure that re-booting the machine clears some things out.
But, is there any other way to clear out the system memory, or to
make sure the memory is blank, or a way to diagnose the memory.
How can I tell if part of my memory has gone bad?

Thanks in advance.

I sure don’t know ITG.  It may be that your 1197c Si needs to come in to be tested, though I do not know how extensively the memory of these units gets tested.  You may want to send in a Sonar Recording along with your unit when you do.

Everything else is working fine:
GPS, 2D-Sonar, Weathersense, XM-Weather, marking new waypoints.

Greg,
Do you think the more waypoints you have, the slower the unit performs?

I have heard from some that are near the maximum number of waypoints that their units work slower, but I don’t know that it is a proven fact or not.  If it is it could vary by unit model and what else you have connected to the unit.  It is just a computer after all.

Why don't you guys sell a super deluxe booster processing/memory chip.
We could buy it, take the back off the unit, pop it in and go fishing.
Would be nice.

What's bad about my particular unit's problem is that I have no idea if
it's software, hardware, or even the Navionics card.
