Side Scan produces Grouper
« on: May 23, 2011, 07:46:19 AM »
Yesterday I tried an artificial reef I've been wanting to try. It was 11 Miles offshore here in the Tampa Bay area. I could hold bottom all the way up to about 24MPH after that erratic readings. I have never fished this reef and when we got there decided to troll around (there are 6 different ships-concrete piles on the same reef) At first I had erratic on the left side, trimmed the motor up just a little and it came back. WOW, had it set for 100 each side and everything showed up AWESOME!! used the cursor and marked some structure, acnhored up over the area. We caught 10 keeper Gropuer (limit 2 per person) but kept 4, as well as Amberjack-Cobia and some Red Snapper.
Have to say I'm impressed, and my buddy that was with me will now be buying a 998C SI.
My new 1198 will be here today so i will have 2...A 898cst and an 1198csi...Cant wait to get out again!!! Thought I'd share

Exactly, We fish the wrecks off North Carolina and the hungry hounds are always around when we get back in.  ...... ;D

Sorry, but that grouper is an illegal catch.

You can keep them in state water up to 9 miles out until June 1.  But 11 miles out is Federal water and you can't keep any gags at all.
