It is also rated to float and it does. Silicone spray is not a bad Idea.

Yea or even lanolin or a Marine grease on all connectors. I've ordered 32gb cards so I won't need to change on the water.

there is an electrical tube of stuff to waterproof connections and connectors. I use it on the connectors since HB does not see the need to put good connectors on their units..
the card door is not very water proof so if you do sink it be prepared to try and do an light warm air dry of the compartment..

gross21, I have used many Humminbird units on watercraft from 9'6" Yak to 36'on the Big Blue, Rivers and Swamps in +115'f to -10'f in rain, fog, snow and sun shine. Waterproofing has not ever had a fail due to water in the plugs.

A little  silcone spray is all I use.

The unit connectors are sealed with epoxy from the inside, so there should be no worries there.  That IPX rating is for 1 meter submersion for 30 minutes and is a standard used in the marine industry.  I would just make sure that you seat the memory/map card cover correctly as this is the only area of the unit that the user controls the seal on.  Not re-installing it correctly is an invitation to water intrusion.
