I just bought 2-999ci's but is now having second thoughts. I'm still in the returnable period and seeing that these units were only $100 less than the new Helix 9 SI GPS, do you guys think I should return them and get the Helix 9 SI's instead?
PROS: screen is 1 inch bigger, faster processor, better screen, newer software
CONS: non-HD transducer, $100 each more than what I paid for the 999s.
Also, I know that the Helix 9 SI's will come with the XNT 9 SI 180 T transducers but do you guys know if they are like the 899's and can be upgraded to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T transducer with full function of all the frequencies?
One last question, are the Helix networkable with the core series?
-
Yes the HELIX 9 can utilize the 800kHz frequency of the upgrade XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ...
Yes the HELIX 9 is networkable with the core series ...
The only downside to the 999 is they will stop getting new updates before the HELIX ...
Maybe you could think about trading 1 of the 999's for a HELIX 9 and then you could compare (and share those comparisons here for others in your same quandary) ...

Thanks Rickie!
The 999s I have now have a very bright screen. Is it also rated 1500 nits?
-
I can't find where the specs show the nit for the 999 ...
As the 1500nit is published for the HELIX (as a selling point I'm sure) ... I would assume the 999 is lower ...

Thanks Rickie. I ended up returning the 999ci's for one Helix 10 SI and one Helix 9 SI. I just didn't want to have buyers remorse next month. The prices are pretty damn close between the 999ci and Helix 9 SI.
I called Humminbird and they basically said that the Helix series basically taking over the core series, hence the similar user interface. I'll just upgrade the transducer and I should be set.

With the HELIX 9 and 10 you will get the added features of customizable data overlay and AutoChart Live built in ... and the brighter screen of course ... Rickie
