New 998 si combo doesn't read either sensors
« on: July 25, 2013, 10:47:36 AM »
I just installed my brand new 998 Tuesday. This isn't my first unit to install either. Just my first HB Si combo. Everything went as planned. Fired it up and it came right on. Of course in the garage they won't read. I installed the regular shoot thru hull transducer and the si transducer as per instructions. I used the splitter to hook both transducers up. So it's on I saved my options for the second shoot thru hull transducer and thought I was ready to go. The simulator works great. But the unit won't pick up the shoot thru at all on the water and the side imaging barely works at all. It's kinda like the si transducer is losing power. The only thing that works good is the GPS. Please help. COULD THE SPLITTER BE THE PROBLEM?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Austin358.

It could be but the first thing that I would check would be if the AS-Si-DB-Y cable is connected correctly (I have reversed these, several times…) and if the transducers are fully plugged into it.

When you installed the XP-9-20 shoot-thru-hull (inside-the-hull) transducer, did you perform the on-water testing?

There are no options for using the shoot-thru transducer.  You should leave the transducer selection menu set to the Hi-Def Sidescan setting.

Ok. And yes it was tested on the water yesterday. The instructions that came with the shoot thru had a big list of stuff to do. And thanks I'm glad to be here. When you connect your sonars to the splitter how do you get them back apart? Is there some kind of trick?  I've tried like hell to unhook them but have been unsuccessfull. Thanks again

The secret is you need a big Jerk!
Unfortunately I have to mow the grass this weekend and will not be able to drive up there and help you… so I recommend using a couple pair of pliers and grasp the back end of the connectors (not the cable) and pull.  We had some complaints about these coming loose and unfortunately the fix makes it very hard to disassemble them when you want to…
