Topic: What are the cartography options for a 1197 si?

Been using the included base map but want a higher quality cartography product. I use it solely for saltwater use for diving and bottom fishing. A lake mapping product does me no good. What is possible for saltwater and what do people recommend?

Navionics.com They have charts for everywhere

OK, Having looked at Navionics web site, it appears my options are Navionics Gold or Platinum+. The Gold version appears to be the basic nautical chart, the Platinum+ version has everything the Gold has plus satellite photos, 3D depth info, "sonar chart" 2-D depth contours, and "fish-n-chips" fishing spot information.

Has anyone used the extra Platinum+ features? Do they all work on a 1197? Are these features useful?

One last thing, How do you activate these features on a 1197 (i.e how do you turn them on or display them)?

Platinum will work on 1197 but will slow screen refreshes and other time/memory drains such as satellite pics of the land. If you use those  the 1197 will slow. I have found no use for any of those features myself. Bob

I am only interested in the "sonar charts" depth contour lines and the Fish'n'chips fishing information. Don't care about the 3D, satellite pictures, and other pictures. Do you have any experience with these on the 1197?
