Title: New Humminbird Search and Rescue on Facebook
Post by: RGecy on March 04, 2011, 07:12:07 PM
I recieved an email from Mark Gibson with Humminbird earlier today.  He has started a facebook page dedicated to Humminbird Search and Rescue.  They will be posting images and videos showing how the HB units work in the SAR environment.

Please check this page out and share your thoughts and interest.  As I understand it, Humminbird is making a stronger push this year into the Diving and Search and Rescue community.  This expansion can only lead to more improvements to an already great unit.

I have also heard, thru the grapevine, they will start producing a transducer with a longer low-impedance cable for users who want to build their own TowFish.  The cable will be at least 100' long.

Thanks,

Robert Gecy

I hope this is not a rumor and that it makes itself available very soon. (towfish) For depths over 30 feet the top scan side image is not reliable enough for SAR unless you are looking for large objects. We are having to use MST side scan more and more for these deeper depths. This is a cost compared to the HB product of which needs to have a towfish to make the job easier at an affordable cost.
We have seen what a towfish can do for those who have made them and Hb needs to make this step if it wants to penetrate the SAR community....
I really do not like having to have a facebook profile to be a part of the offering.. It would be nice to have this on another platform..
