Title: 1198 Restarting
Post by: Goosedwnr on March 16, 2014, 04:48:57 PM
Hey guys, first time posting here so bare with me!  I have done a search about my topic but either I am doing it wrong or I can't find it.  I have an 1198SI that I am running in Simulation mode off of a 12volt marine battery in the house.  I ran the simulator on and off for a few hours just messing around with it.  Now when I go to start it back up it keeps restarting if it's in the simulation mode.  I have a steady 12.3 volts running to the Unit.  The software version is 6.640.  It shows that it passes the Self Test.  Works fine and does not lock up if I just leave it go into normal mode.  Any ideas on what problem there may be?

Thanks!

when you first start the unit up you will see the screen that says Humminbird  loading.  the next screen says to press menu for set up options.  There isn't much time before it goes on so after you get the next screen you will have the option to go to  the normal, simulator or System status screen.

Phil,

Thanks for the reply, I might not have explained it the best.  I do get into the simulation screen for about 30 seconds or so where I can mess around with some settings, but then the Unit locks up and shows a white blank screen and restarts on its own.

What are you using to get your power.   I am using a power adapter that is 12v  and 1.6 amp.  When I used one that was less amperage I couldn't keep the unit on.    When you have a lot of things turned on in the unit,it draws a lot of power and small power adapters won't work.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Goosedwnr.

Are you using the connector collector parts to hold the power cable in place?

Be sure and check the battery voltage while the unit is running.  This puts the battery under a load which may show the voltage quite a bit lower.

If the battery checks out good you may try updating the software in your unit to see if that helps.  Just make sure you are doing this on a stable power source otherwise it may have to take a trip back to the factory to be fixed.

Greg,

Thanks for the reply! I thought about doing the update to the software but when I log into My Humminbird it does not show any new updates available for my Unit. I have an Ipilot link trolling motor and it shows an update available for that, but nothing for my 1198 & 998.

I have just been plugging the extra power cord in the back of the unit without the bracket.  I will try a different power source and see if that helps.

Thanks!

Just an FYI, I updated the Software to 6.740 and the restarting problem has gone away.  I updated both Units to the latest software, now I just have to find out if the Terrova needs an update now as well.  How do you tell what version you are running on the ILink Controller & Remote?

Cory, it’s all in the i-Pilot Link manual:

For the remote: On the remote itself go to Home > settings Softkey > About.
The i-Pilot Link you will have to check it on the same View that shows what accessories are connected: Under the Set-up tab in the main menus (press MENU button twice) > Accessory Test > Visible.  Then scroll through available Views until you see it.  The software version will be shown next to the i-Pilot Link listing.
