Title: HXS 9 HDSI 180 T Transducer
Post by: ohmitr on September 13, 2013, 05:50:33 PM
I just got the new HDSI transducer mounted up and got out on the water today.  It's working perfectly but noticed it's not listed in the software where you select your transducer.  I'm wondering if a software upgrade is needed or if selecting the "Compact SI" transducer is all you need to do.

Thanks!

I put the HDSI 180 on my 598 and the same menu thing - I just selected the compact and it works fine. Incredible detail.

The 798 and 598 units were never designed to use the larger HDSi transducer, so there will not be a separate selection for the Transducer Select menu for it.  Just select the Compact Side Imaging transducer selection and go fishing.

Kokanee, could you please describe the difference after changing to the HDsi transducer. Is it worth to change? I'm using an 798SIHD with the standard transducer at the moment. An increase in detail would be fine... Could you post some shots taken with the new transducer?

Thx!
John

Hi John,

While saving my coin to get a 598, I downloaded the 598 Owner's Manual, printed, and read it all. Also, subscribed to this site and the other Humminbird site and read everything. I came across a Humminbird Greg post where it said you could upgrade to the HDSI ducer by trading in your new, unused compact SI ducer along with an upgrade fee. As soon as I opened the box and registered, I got hold of HB Customer Service. Within 5 days, I had the HDSI and went out to record my project (attached screenshots).

From other posts with bigger units, I think mine are just as sharp from a 598. These pics were from a lake with a high load of suspended silt and clay from Mt. Rainier glacial runnoff and looks "milky". The 598 with the HDSI and 4K watts did well, even to 150+.

Thx for posting these nice images. I'm impressed by the detail sharpness. So the longer Xtal in the transducer will have some nice effect. Unfortunately these HDSI transducers are quite expensive, so I'm not sure to upgrade.....

Thanks! HB_Greg said there would be better resolution.

I believe the upgrade (new trade) was about $70, but I have seen them new on ebay as low as $150 (no tax, free shipping) and you can have your compact ducer for a spare. I have been known to back by boat into a rock and bust a ducer wide open! Ruined that day's fishin'.
