Hi,
Question on SI transducer placement –
Do most of you place your transducer below the bottom of the boat?
I have an 898C SI on order and I was reading the “Transducer Breakage” thread here.
Got me thinking about transducer location, I currently have an old Lowrance unit that is mounted about 1” below the back and bottom of the boat – I have had this transducer kick up numerous times from hitting small objects floating in the water.
If I put the SI unit just even with the bottom of the boat I think it would still give a good signal, I could still use my old Lowrance unit like it is now and maybe avoid damage to my new SI ducer.
My boat is an 18’ aluminum Hewescraft semi-V, 150HP outboard jet, mostly used in rivers.
Just wanting some feedback on others SI transducer placement.

The SI Transducer will need to sit down in the water below the hull line. There are quite a few Installation images in the Image Gallery.
When you install it, you would want to have the horizontal centerline of the transdcuer line up with the bottom of the hull line. Then you can adjust it up or down as needed.

Where I cruise, there is quite a lot of waterlogged debris that doesn't quite float. Having just had to have my prop reprofiled after hitting some unknown object, I'm very glad that my transducers are mostly protected by the transom.
