Back trolling
« on: April 26, 2013, 05:33:24 PM »
When forward trolling is just to fast, I occasionally back troll to get slower than 1 MPH. My question is. Does side imaging work equally as well in reverse as it does forward? How will speed less than 1 MPH affect imaging?

the slower you can troll, the better the image. That is if you have all the settings correct.

The SI image is just as discernible with the boat going backwards as it is when the boat is going forward...

One just has to remember that the "History" of the SI image (that is scrolling toward the bottom of the display) is the lake bottom that the boat has "already passed over" ...which in "back trolling" would be the lake bottom out over the bow of the boat...

Thanks guys, that's the answers I was hoping for. Hi Loc, good to see a familiar face.
Since I don't YET have a transducer on the bow TM, having the history under the boat will be a big advantage in finding and netting shad.

In your experience, how would you arrange settings for back trolling? What we should pay attention to, in saving those settings?
Thanks and God bless you.

The settings for backtrolling would be no different from forward direction operation...

*Match chart speed to boat speed...
*SI Range higher to see possible interests out farther...lower to discern what points of interest might actually be..
*Sensitivity "Up" or "Down" to control screen brightness over varying bottom compositions/water idepths...
*800kHz for best detail of structure close to boat in SI image...
*455kHz for best fish and structure detecting at the outside edges of the SI image...
*Sharpness higher to detect fish...lower to discern bottom structure...
*Color Pallete to match your "eye pleasing" needs according to the ambient light at that time...
*Boat direction parallel with Xducer "front to rear axis" ...as much as possible....

My hope is to only give back useful information that was kindly given to me when I first bought my unit in 2010...

"Most" everything I learned for my 1197 was gained right here at sideimagingsoft.com from the same great people that are still active "helpers" today...

(You too chuck Sonar2000 ...when you get a chance to check in)..
