« on: October 06, 2013, 04:09:44 AM »
This has just started happening for the last week. Any info appreciated.
I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?

Which model Humminbird is this for steelebob?
Where is the transducer(s) for this unit mounted?
Have you made any changes to your boat that would cause it to ride through the water differently?
Could it have been the water conditions causing this?

Check the transducer mounting to make sure nothing has changed.
Check the power connections to the unit too – nothing loose or corroded and do not forget to check the fuse holder, fuse and battery connections.

It's a 898c, transom mount. No changes except tightening it down so it doesn't flip up too easily and it's happening on different lakes.

Just thought of something else, that I should have taken of picture of this--- the sonar view, at times the bottom instead of the normal colors has a washed out orange tint to it and the at the some time the water column has hundreds of orange and black specs---Fall turnover???

That could be but it shouldn’t make your unit not want to read the depth reading only when under 15 mph.

It maybe steelebob but if it is it has not jogged my memory.  Of course that is getting to be harder and harder to do as the years go by…

Is there anyone in your area that runs a Humminbird unit that would allow you to cross-test with?  It does not have to be another 898c Si unit as most of our units use the same 200/83kHz 2D sonar.  Just as long as it is not one of the DI model units it should work.  Plug only the power and transducer in on each boat for the test.

No one I know in the area does. The depth problem may have been fixed. I did have a bad battery connection and I had the boat out today and I had  no problem. Great call there Dr Greg!!!!
