Software on new unit.
« on: July 10, 2014, 10:12:48 AM »
I just ordered a new 898c SI for my boat that had and old 898 that just quit in the middle of snapper season it just started going off and on and no GPS connected and some kinda waiting for some test. I tried to go to default and download new programing cleaned plugs bent pins to the extent that I broke one on the com/gps link so I just ordered a new combo. Would have got something else if didn't have all the HB antenna and transducers installed. I fish in saltwater and it has never been wet. The SI still worked and the XM has always give me a headache with sever weather tornado and you name it flashing on the screen. Constantly have to mash exit even if the XM is all off. Question is if I am getting a new unit do I have to do any Uploads or would the software be current. Also I have the N avionics chip and a Way-point chip how do I down load them or run them together one is from Florida Sportsman. Will it put wreck and way-points overlay on the N avionics.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums axman.

Just because the unit is new to you does not mean that it was just built and will have the latest software.  My guess is that it will not have the latest software as we stopped building these (they were replaced by the 899 units) and we have had new software released for the 898 units after that.

I am not familiar with the Florida Sportsman Waypoint chip.  If this is just a listing of waypoints that can be downloaded into the 898 unit than once they are loaded the chip can be removed as the waypoints will be in the units internal memory.
