I have a 798 c si unit and will purchase a 1198 or 1199 unit soon. Can I link there two to share waypoints and maps. I have an interlink unit.

It would be best to use Ethernet.
The 798 and 1199 would need the optional plug in adapter to change the Ethernet round plug to the correct plug for the unit.
The 1198 would be a direct plug in and you would only need an adapter for the 798.

Thanks Trout Bum.

If the unit is the 798 HD model ...it is Ethernet compatible...
If the 798 does not have HD in the model name...it is only Interlink compatible...
Interlink will copy and transfer waypoint data from unit to unit...
Ethernet will only "share" waypoint data...with both units powered on and set to "Share Waypoint"...
Neither Interlink nor Ethernet will share maps...except Ethernet ONIX to ONIX and ION to ION ...

I don't believe that Interlink works with the 1199, but not sure.

It DOES NOT.

Depending on the software version in the 1198 unit it may or may not communicate with the 798 unit through the InterLink. They both need to be running the same level (number before the decimal point) software.
