NEW 998C SI HD SET-UP
« on: January 10, 2014, 05:56:34 PM »
Just looking for some pointers on installation on a new 998c SI HD, just purchased my first HB unit moving over from the Lowrance world. If anyone has any suggestions to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I have a Javelin R19, without a jackplate and 150hp motor. Plans are to install unit by console. My biggest question is on transducer location, I have tried to look at several pic and study info on site. Which is very helpful thanks to all. Thanks to all in advance.

What made you switch from Lowrance, and what unit did you have?

Rotus623, I had the Lowrance 522c igps. The unit works great and I still have it on my boat. I wanted to upgrade to a side image unit and after research and pricing Humminbird worked best for me. I have not had a chance to put in on the water yet but hopefully all will work ok. I see you run the 898 if you have any pointers as for as setting you like feel free to share.
Thanks
Chris B

Go through all of the FAQs and info on interferences. There is soooo much info on here. I keep my SI about 3-4 times wider than the depth, and I like to keep the contrast up higher than most, like at 12-15 and keep my sensitivity low at around 7-8 with enhance on low. This really makes the fish stand out. Keep scroll speed matched to boat speed and record videos!!! Lots of them because you can find which settings you like while using playback.
