Tranducer too loose and popping up 587ci HD Di
« on: May 14, 2013, 09:09:31 AM »
I just installed the  transom mount transducer after spending days contemplating best place (hate to drill holes in boat). As soon as I installed in and finally popped it down right away I knew it was too loose. First it has play moving perhaps a 1/2 inch up and down. Secondly the installtion manual states use a screwwdriver to pop up....where as I can just pop it up with almost no foerce whatsoever. I have done some research here and they mention bending metalsides in..... Mine seem to be all plastic. And I am a bit concerned about trying to bend it. any help would be appreciated. I know when I find optimum position I can screw it down but until I do that I am thinking double sided tape to hold down. BUT seems that a product as good as this would not do this so what am I missing???????

supernukes,
Welcome to the Side Imaging Forums!

Where you mounted the transducer; is this a flat area or is there a slight curve to it?  If it is mounted in an area with a curve, it could cause it to be looser (is that a word) than what it should be.
If it is mounted in a flat area, I would call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks (1-800-633-1468) and ask that they send you a new hardware pack to install as it should not be that loose.

TY for your quick response....no the transom is totally flat (Nitro 189 sport)...I will contact costomer support today and request the kit  you suggested. One more question...I keep seeing references to metal transducer supports and even squeezing it a bit to tighten transducer "fit". My support apprears to be totally plastic....but does it have metal underneath the plastic coating. If it does I would be willing to try bending it in a bit but if it really is just plastic that would not seem to be a viable option....Thanx in advance

The metal bracket is referring to the mounting hardware for the larger XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducer that gets shipped out with the 898/998/1198c Si units.

WoW ....Humminbird got me the installation packet in one day......no cost delivered to my door. As I looked at it it appeared identical to what I was having problems with...just finished replacing  the transducer mounting assembly and it locked down tight and correctly.  Everything is perfect will test on river tomorrow ...But humminbird has not only impressed me with their product and its value ...now its customer service and support here on the forum has shown to be way above and beyond what is normally done after sale......Kudos and thanks alot.......
