858combo firmware roll back
« on: June 22, 2015, 10:31:16 AM »
I,m trying to find 6.49 for the 858 combo that firmware gave me excellent results. I recently updated the console 898 and the bow 858 to the latest firmware and installed the as hs puck the latest firmware compared to 6.49 is blocky looking & are a no go. I would rather have rock solid reliable readings than the hs sensor. Will the as hs puck operate as a normal gps puck with the 6.49 update ? Because if it won't I will uninstall it "as hs" and revert back to the older puck.
Any response would be mucho appreciated thank you in advance.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the unit will recognize the HS GPS at 6.49 ..... I am kinda surprised that you are seeing a problem with 2D on the 858, I always thought it was just the SI units that had the 2D messed up beyond 6.49.

If you decide to go backwards, could you take one of them backwards and post some comparison images of the 2D ...... Or just post some screenshots of a 2D image with the problem.

The 858 might have had decent pictures, my Dad is always up there so I don't see that unit much. I leave the old fart in the kings throne so I can give him a hard time ;D My point of reference was from the 898. 6.49 is so highly thought of I thought I would just put that back on both. I could put the 6.610 on the 858 and move the hs puck to the front and put 6.49 back on the console and they'll still talk to each other but I'm unsure as to what kind of images the 6.10 would produce for the 858, I've read no reviews on the matter. Sorry that sounds awful fussy but we're both retired and what else do we have to do all day but bs and fish.  ;)
Thank you that was a quick response :)

I don't think the 858 had the same issues the 898 did with the software updates ..... I'd probably just go with the latest release for the 858.

I'd probably go with at least a 404 for the musky  ;D

The newest version in your HB account (for the 898) has an added "Jigging Mode" that allows your 2d to perform at 6.490 ping sequence quality ...

This should give you capability for he AS GPS HS antenna and the 2d performance you are accustomed to ...

Did you try the "Jigging Mode" when you updated to the latest version ... ??

I did reinstall 6.49 "on the 898 si"for the sole purpose of doing a reinstall of 7.510 just in case I did something wrong the first time. I'll do some more experimenting with the jigging mode, it very well could be the fact that I haven't changed the settings enough to make a reasonable assessment of this update. Would running the the 858 in 200 only help or has that been done away with, with the jigging mode? It seems like I,m learning this all over again after this update.

Thank you again for everyone's input

There shouldn't be any pixelation issue in the 858 ...

That gremlin only showed up the SI units at version 6.5xx when HB changed the ping sequence to benefit the SI imaging (at the detriment to the 2d imaging) ...
--------

"Jigging mode On" basically changes the ping sequence back to 6.490 criteria ...
"Jigging mode Off" basically changes the ping sequence back to present criteria ...

"Jigging mode" is only available in the HB SI units in the Sonar Xpress menu with version 7.510 and newer (I think that's the number) ...

Xpress menu no wonder I couldn't find it.I found it once and set it to jigging mode on, and later was going to turn it off while I looked for the mystery rock pile I saw. I used the newer updates today it seemed fine. After I updated the first time to 7.5 I didn't reset to default and went right into setting it up with the front one i,m not sure if that had anything to do with it. But after a roll back and then a new install it all seems ok. I sure do appreciate all you guys help.
Again thanks.
