Title: transducer placement help
Post by: peahbeez on May 03, 2012, 08:13:27 PM
Just purchased a new 898c si combo. My boat is a basstracker 165 looking for an idea for transducer placement as well as gps antenna placement. New to forum and any help is greatly appreciated!!

If that transducer on the right side of the boat works good in that location; you might want to try starting with the HDSi transducer there.  You may have to remove the speed sensor to the left of it and tilt the motor up so the left Si sonar isn’t blocked.

Thanks for the help. Would you suggest using a transducer mounting plate? It is an old hummingbird transducer not sure if the holes would line up with the new transducer bracket.

Yes, I would use one of those transducer mounting plates.
I recognized the transducer but cannot remember if the holes will line up.  Most likely not.

Peahbeez, I just replaced an antique LCR400ID with an 898.  The new 898 bracket is identical to the the 20 year old one, but I had already removed the old one from the boat before I realized.  I actually had to laugh and thought to myself, "don't fix it if it ain't broken."  hahaha

I may not be in the majority, but my outboard is directly in the way of the side imaging beam to port, but I find that I still am able to see all of the bottom and most of the water column by trimming my motor up.  I am satisfied with what I'm seeing, so I chose not to make any material modifications to the boat(a pontoon)or add an additional transducer on the port side.

I would try the 898 ducer in the same spot as the old, if in fact your old bracket is the same as your old one, as mine was.  Then see how you like the views.
