Title: 998 high speed transducer
Post by: Blackwaterkatz on July 28, 2011, 07:33:37 PM
I just haven't had much success getting the SI transducer that came with my unit to read depth at higher speeds; tried a lot of adjustments, but it isn't reliable at speeds above maybe 20 mph.  Can I purchase a different transducer for high speed only, and use it with my unit?

Hi Tommy; We got 9 in rain in 39 hr!

Good luck and enjdy. Roddy :)

Tom, we are seeing problems with the 190 transducer and transom mount. A lot of folks are opting for a shoot thru the hull for speed depths.
As Roddy requested, can you post pictures of the install...

I'm using the supplied transducer, which I'm pretty sure is the XHS-9-HDSI-180-T.  It is mounted basically where the 797's XNT-9-SI-180-T was (which read bottom at any speed), and I've adjusted it vertically with no real improvement.  The transducer to the left is for my Lowrance dual freq. which I always keep in the position shown.  I have another 200 mhz on the port side for that unit.

Not the greatest pics from my cell phone, but hopefully they will show what is there.  Thanks.

Tommy; Might try adjusting the aft end of the xducer up in the mount.

First one slot then one more.  Roddy

I've already tried changing height, as well as the angle of tilt.  Right now it is at the lowest point that I've tried.  I want to find out if I can install another 200 mhz and just use it for standard down sonar while cruising at speed, then switch to the side imaging transducer for lower speeds.

Hi Tommy; Yes you can install two (2) xducer's with the TS-3 switch from HB .

The switch is about $85.00 +S&H.

Why not just purchase a XP 9 20 puck transducer and mount it to shoot thru the hull. You will also need a Y-connector. Plug your existing SI cable into the Y-connector marked SI and your new Puck cable into the Y-connector tail marked Dual Beam. Your unit will automatically run the Dual Beam at high speed.

Now if you are wanting High speed SI images, your probably out of luck.

I am wondering if using the new T3 switch might not be better than a y-connector.
Thoughts...
