798 SI HD temp issues
« on: May 16, 2011, 09:57:23 AM »
Hope someone out there can help me out....

Just bought a new 798 HD SI. I have it on the front of my boat with the trolling motor transducer. I cannot seem to get a temperature reading in the water or even out of the water. My 997 at the console reads both in and out of the water. Did I hook something up wrong? Or is the issue with the software or maybe the transducer? Please help!

Does the diagnostic screen show it as connected?  I believe temp is shown seperate than transducer on that screen.   If it does, maybe it is just not set-up/configured for the display.  If it doesn't, check to see if you have a bent or broken pin in connector.   Also, look for a pinched cable.
If it bends my rod, I'm a happy fisherman.

Doesn't seem to be anything that looks broken. Anything to the naked eye at least. The model of my transducer is XTM 9 SI 180 T.

That transducer has the built-in temperature sensor so the 798ci HD Si unit should read and display it.  Try connecting your 997 to the same transducer and see if you get a temperature reading.  That will let you know if it is the temperature sensor in the transducer that is bad or something with your 798ci HD Si unit.
