Title: Sonar Clarity
Post by: Fishfor5 on June 22, 2011, 05:21:51 PM
I have two 898 units.  One mounted on my dash and one on the front.  Both units are linked through an interlink box.  For some reason I have perfect clarity on the sonar and down scan on the unit on my dash but the unit on the front is not near as clear.  It seems to be picking up some interference.  It shows a lot of vertical lines which that run from the top of the screen to the bottom.  I have all of the settings on both units set up exactly the same.  Any idea why the unit on the dash reads clearly and the one on the front shows some clutter?

Thanks,

Is the one on the front near a trolling motor?  Could the interlink connect line to the front one be near other voltage or radio lines..??

Chuck.

It's most likely electrical interference.
Look at your unit with your trolling motor off, then turn on the trolling motor and see if the unit looks different.

Fishfor5 has not said he has a trolling motor.  We are guessing.  Which is why I asked.
Lets wait and see if he posts to the question of having a trolling motor...

The transducer for the unit on the front is mounted on the bottom of the trolling motor.  I have suspected all along it was interference with the trolling motor.  Sounds like that is probably the case.  Anything I can do to fix it?  I've heard that there is a small device you can install that removes that interference.

You need to call the Humminbird Customer resource folks to see what they suggest for this; but first confirm that this only happens when the trolling motor is operating at less than high speed.
