Title: Helix 9 MSI G3N AIS Question
Post by: EsperanceSailing on June 26, 2019, 03:33:39 AM
I have connected my Vesper Marine Watchmate 850 to my new Helix 9 unit via NMEA 0183 at 34800 bauds. In the Accessories Menu I am able to see and select the AIS option and in that I am been able to see the vessels in the Target List but on the Chart View I can only see 3 of the 7 vessels on my Target List. These vessels are in close proximity, show on my dedicated AIS unit but even when I select them on the Target List it doesn't know where they are. Two of the vessels (both large ships) are close to me (less than 0.5 NM) but it has listing the third closest vessel (a tug) as the closest. In the Target List it identifies these vessels by Name, MMSI and type but seems to be unable to determine their position.

I have gone through all the options over the last 4 days and it seems to be the same everytime, it actually only locates the same three vessels every time. At the moment all are in port. I have powered the unit up each day and left it for some time to acquire the information from the AIS unit but it does the same every time. It is able to pick up a new ship in port but will only add it to the Target List, not place it on the Chart View.

Any ideas.. I have checked the raw data from the AIS unit and it appears fine.
