998c si and 787c2
« on: January 06, 2013, 10:31:54 PM »
Can I hook a 998c si to a 787c2 by a Ethernet cable? And what info would I be able to share? I have navionics chip in both. The 998 is on console w/ transducer on transom. The 787 is on bow and uses the internal transducer of my terrova. Both units have external GPS antennas mounted as close as possible to their respectful transducers. Also if I get i-link in the future would this be a plus. (having a Ethernet connection) Thanks for Info.

Since most people probably don't have your exact two unit configuration,
I doubt if any user on here can answer you.

Greg is probably the only person that would know for sure.
You could also call Humminbird customer support and ask them.

The first question I would ask is: Does the 787c2 even have an ethernet port?
It sounds like an old legacy model to me.

I think when linked, the units can share waypoints, tracks and routes, but no map card info.

To be on the safe side, I'd call Humminbird customer service.
They'll have all the answers.

Sorry Gator but I have been busy with my normal job duties here at Humminbird and have not had any time to get on this board to help answer questions.

ITG is right though: the 787c2 is an older model unit and it does not have an Ethernet connection.  So the answer to your question is “No” for the Ethernet connection.

Thanks Greg, I was thinking that's what the AS EC QDE enthernet cable adapter was for. So how could I share waypoints between these two units? Or do I have to spend more big$ and get a newer unit for the bow?

Gator,
You may be able to use the InterLink accessory for this but with this has gotten progressively more difficult to do with the older units like the 787c2 and the newer units like the 998c Si.

A cheaper alternative would be to export the waypoints from one unit to an SD memory card and install them in the other unit.  There may be some problems with this if you are using the Group feature in the 998 unit.

Your third and most expensive choice would be to sell the 787c2 and buy an Ethernet capable replacement for it (the 788ci HD).
