Second Screen on boat
« on: November 13, 2010, 02:28:00 PM »
I am very interesting to acquire a 1197C SI, I had a 798Si and I know it is possible to connect a monitor to the video output signal. I would like to know if anybody has done this, what monitor is used and how is the quality. My idea woud be to use the sonar in the console position and connect a monitor in the bow.

Could I find a video record in a website to see the quality?

Many thanks in advance from a Spanish bass angler.

Manuel,
There are at least a couple others of us looking for someone who has successfully done this.  Seems like a good way to get a larger screen.
There was another thread on this site where a guy from Scotland had used the video out to a 19" flat sceen tv and seem pretty happy with the results.
I had requested more info from him, but he doesn't seem to frequenting the site anymore.  :(
I am a little concerned about finding a durable monitor that has good visibility in bright sunlight. :-\

some toughbook pc are made for sunlight. Jolly Roger I think had a toughbook at one time. We use the toughbook at fire scenes and do not have any problems with display.

Hmmmm.....will have to check into that.  I have a notebook pc I take in the boat occassionally to keep track of the weather with my air card, but have always had trouble viewing it in bright sunlight.
Didn't think there might be some notebooks designed for that.

I can see it is not a extended option. In any case what I am looling for is to have a second display in bow with a minimun cost but with similar quality. Is it possible to conect for instance a Humminbird 955C to the 1197C and whatch on the fist one what the 1197 shows.

I am looking for this kind of solution and not to buy other SI imagen sonar if possible because at the end of the day I am only going to use one transducer in stern.

Well, looks like it's my turn.
I have a PANASONIC CF-18 Toughbook
http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&modelNo=Toughbook-18
on the boat and use it mainly for navigation. A side effect is that I can check the recordings in Hummviewer directly on the boat.
The toughbook's screen is readable in sunlight. I never had issues with that. But my understanding is that Manuel is looking for a second display at low cost and that isn't the case with a toughbook.

I did find some wibsites selling factory refurbished Toughbooks at a reasonable price.....I think it's time to sell my other notebook and buy a Toughbook.
Would have to figure out how to bring in the video to use as a second monitor and would be really nice to have Humviewer onboard as well as full internet.

P.S.  Finally decided to order an 898.

Hi Folks, was hoping you all could help me out on this.  I run a dive team in Southern Alberta and we've been using this unit for a few years now successfully, but we really need to add a secondary monitor into the system for sidescan viewing.  Is it possible to attach a 2nd 1197c SI monitor into the system for secondary viewing?  Would I be able to take snapshots and interact with the system without affecting the feed to the primary console?  Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Aeodhagan.

I have not tried this myself and I know that the 1197 units do not have the same Ethernet capabilities as other Humminbird units but I do think that if you Ethernet connected two 1197 units together that you should be able to share the 2D and Si sonar from the first 1197 unit to the second 1197 unit.  The second 1197 unit would be able to display that information as you want it to and also make Screen Snapshots.   Maybe someone who has an 1197 unit with another Humminbird unit Ethernet connected to it will see this message and reply as to their experience.  You may want to try posting this under its own topic
