Anyone have luck removing factory Flasher Transducer ?
« on: October 28, 2013, 01:36:59 PM »

Just wondering if I should even try to attempt to remove it. It's a 1994 boat, Original Humminbird console flasher, still works too !The puck is in the perfect location to mount a new in hull TD in the fact that its recessed perfectly. I was curious if anyone has removed one and how ?

I have.
Place a piece of wood against the transducer at as low of an angle as you can while still being able to strike the other end of the piece of wood with a hammer.  The lower the angle the better so that all of the force is directed against the transducer and not down into the boat’s hull.  Once it’s out; grind/chip out the old epoxy and clean it all up, then test the new transducer in the same location (it should work but test it anyways).

Which flasher is this?  The WP60ID Indash Flasher?

Ok cool Greg thanks, Just give it a whack and break the epoxy. Sounds much easier as I am going to have to get my 46 yr old body in a position it has not been in awhile !  I was thinking heat would be involved, I'm going to give it a go though if I cannot find a better location. There's room its the access thats the issue.
I am not sure which flasher, it's a 1994 model still works great  The entire boat was in storage for 10 years so its one of the nicer 20 yr old boats around. I really dont want to dismantle the original flasher, its a classic.

That’s a WP60ID Indash Flasher and she’s a beauty!
I’ve heard that there are still a lot of folks who look for these on-line.

I can understand about the body-bending access.  I stopped doing inside-the-hull installs years ago due to my less than flexible body.  ;D

Yeah she is ! I thought you would like that ! I am not going to remove her, just the puck so I can mount the XNT in that recess. I will definitely get more out of the XNT than I would the flasher but I know back in the day that was the one to have. My uncle could read that think like a graph.

While I got you here and not too start another thread. I am running a 788ci circa 2009 on my trolling motor. The 898 has me captivated, just love it. Without spending 800 series money what would be a good unit that I could link with the 898,share waypoints etc and have a good TD for dropshotting ? I was thinking a 700 series DI should I pass on the SI for the front unit ? Thanks buddy for your help !

Hmmmm, a DI unit or an Si unit at the bow… It really gets back to how you are going to use your bow sonar unit.  If all you are interested in is what is below the boat, then I would go with the DI model unit.  However, if you want to be able to see what is in the water around the boat as well as what is under it, then the Si model unit would be the way to go.  Just make sure that they are 700 series units that have the "HD" in the model name so that they will have an Ethernet connection.
