Title: 898 SI (997 SI) Console Mount Options Available
Post by: Deltaden on December 23, 2009, 11:40:27 AM

I am planing to purchase the new 898 SI when available in Spring.  I presently have a Lund 1700 Explorer SS with a console mounted Lowrance.  I'm told the new 898 mount will be similar to the current 997.  Is that mount "Stationary" or can it swivel or pivot?

The Lowrance I now have is on a "Johnny Ray Mount".  If I fish near the bow, I can swivel it. It also has a "Quick Release" feature that allows you unplug one connection and take it off when docked, etc.

As to the 898 (and 997), does anyone know if that's available with a Humminbird?  Has anyone seen an add on that has a flexible arm mount for boat electronics (similar to a goose neck)?

Thanks to anyone.

There are numerous Ram Mounts available for the units you mentioned. I use one on my 798 and turn it for viewing from the bow when ever fishing alone.

The 898 will not come with any type of swivel mount device.  It is a straight U-shaped gimbal mount.  I would look at RAM and possibly some other brands of mounts for what you are looking for.

Thanks for your reply.  I'm surprised Humminbird does not have what I want as an add-on. Seems they could make a pretty good buck by adding some swivels and arms to their catalog.  Some other options I see on the net are not made to fit exactly a certain HB model but they appear to be somewhat adaptable.  The RAM Brand mounts I saw seem very overpriced, over $100.  The Johnny Ray Mount for a 997 says it's not an exact match, etc.  Thanks anyway and have a fun holiday.
