2D / Extra Transducer Location.....?
« on: May 04, 2010, 08:57:34 PM »
Ok Folks....I have a 898.  Mounted my SI Ducer in the back on the transom, just below my external GPS Receiver.  That works well.

I have since moved my 2D ducer from inside the hull ( went against the grain on that mount ) and it worked well at slow speed but at around 10 mpg, loss of signal.

So, I moved it again today and will try.  I mounted on the opposite side of the motor from the S I Ducer.....but....I see that the 2D Ducer is inline with the S I Ducer.

This is my last place to try the 2D Ducer.

My boat is 100 Gauge Aluminum.  I do not have many choices at all.  I might try and post pics.

My question I guess is....the 2D Ducer is about 3 1/2 feet from my S I Ducer.....I am just wondersing how much this might play a role in what shows up on my screen.  Time will tell and hope I know something in the next few days.

Any suggestions??

Is the 2D transducer connected to the 898? If so, what connection did you use?
Is the 2D transducer the Alumaducer or the Humminbird 83/200 khz?

Yes...I am using the old ducer from my 787c2i and now have a dual Transducer on the 898....using the supplies S I Ducer and the left over Ducer ( transom ) from the 787c2i.  I have a new puck duer for the 787c2i now used on the front of the boat.

I am using a "Y" cable to connect them.

I did know how bad the 2D Ducer may affect the 898 S I ducer.

When you use the Y cable for the two transducers, only the separate 2D transducer is connected to the display. The 2D element in the SI transducer is not connected thru the Y cable so they cannot interfere with each other.

No....what I am asking is the physical aspect of the 2D ducer on my transom....and the S I Ducer....being some 3 1/2 feet apart, the 2D ducer kind in line with the S I Ducer....how bad will this affect my S I screen.....in other words...pic up the showing of trhe ducer on the screen in the S I .

So the best I can tell...you have your ( S I Ducer ) on the driver side of the boat and your 2 D Ducer on the left side and this shows me the 2 D Ducer does interfeer with the signal?  Right?

I will know more in a day or two when I go out on the water.

Fols, what happens if I use just my S I Ducer.....what will I be missing without using the 2 D Ducer.  The high end running speed with info on the screen doesn't bother me that much.  I can use my Navionics Card to help me there.

Actually with Soretoe’s set up it would be a large SI transducer on each side.  He is using one for right Si and 2D sonar and one for the left Si sonar.  He won’t get the possible physical blockage of the Si sonar like you will.

[Nice to see you well enough to post again Lou.)

It’s hard to say if you will see anything or not.  Some of the Si sonar will get blocked but you may not see it.  Any blockage will happen in the upper part of the water column.

Hard to say what would happen if you only use the one Si transducer.  Maybe just no 2D sonar at high-speeds if you can’t get it mounted in the perfect location.

Well, I just wanted to report after the testing of the now third location of my transducer ( 2 D ).

It is now on the back of the transducer on the left and the S I ducer is on the right.  They work really welll where they are.

No problems so far and I will try my best in the next few days to take pics for so to see.

Thanks for everyone help on this issue.
