linking 3 units with 5 port ethernet switch
« on: July 23, 2015, 01:38:31 PM »
Hi,

I had an issue once before and was happy with the support I got on the forums.  I am having a problem that I think should be easy to fix, but I am not sure what to do.  I use to have a an 1198CSI at my console linked to a 898CSI at my trolling motor.  Both units had separate transducers and gps receivers.  I now installed another 898CSI by my trolling motor and linked all 3 units with a 5 port ethernet switch.  The 2 original units are working, but the unit I just installed was stuck in demonstration mode.  I think it said no transducer detected.  I got it out of demonstration mode, but I can't use the sonar or map.  I did not install a transducer or gps receiver for the new unit.  I figured I would be able to plug it in and use information from one of the 2 transducers I have installed or I thought I would be able to use the map from one of the other unit gps receivers.  I'm sure it is just a simple settings change, but I do not know what settings to change.  I played around with the settings for a while, but did not make any progress.

Thank you!

Not very good at all this but I have three units only two of which have transducers connected so pretty much same set-up.  You need to have a unit with transducer connected powered on in order for the non-transducer unit to have the info available  On my non-transducer unit I simply go to menu---networking----and select the unit I want to pull the info from for sonar/gps/temp.  However patience is needed.....the units can take a minute or two (seems like eternity) to see each other before the selection can be made.  Depending on the capabilities of the units involved you may have to change a frequency on the transducer unit to match 2nd unit.   Hope this helps, at least be assured what you want is possible!  Im certain Hummingbird Greg will respond in time with better info for you.
Regards

Greg has been pretty busy with "normal" work duties, but you will need to force a normal start up AFTER a start in simulator - press power once & shut off sonar, then start normal, go to network tab and setup this unit to slave off the other 898 if that's the source unit you want.
S/W versions need to be at same or similar version levels and it would be wise to assign unit names so you don't get them mixed up in your network settings...

Thanks for the replies.  I will try your recommendations on Saturday.  My boat is at my cabin now and I haven't been there to change the settings.  I will give you an update after I work on it Saturday.
