998 ISSUE LATEST SOFTWAREUPDAT
« on: April 07, 2013, 05:53:09 PM »
I updated my 998 with 6.10 update and all the graph keep doing is starting up runs for 1 or 2 mins and then shuts down and then starts back up. Does any one have the an earlier update that you can send me or does anyone think it will correct the issue. It was working fine prior to the update. Any help would be great.  :-[

Steve,

What proceedure are you using to do the update?  Are you restoring defaults before updating?

Also why did you feel you NEEDED to update? You stated you weren't having problems before you updated....

In my personal opinion the best thing to do is call HB to get your prior working version, and let them know you are having problems with the updates.

I know it is a hassle and would be easier to get the back out version elsewhere....

But HB needs the feedback letting them know people are having problems and are not happy with the way they keep releasing bad updates....

The last updates that I did to all my graph were done the same way. Received a email from HB stating there was an update. Just as you would on a Windows update. Downloaded to my card, installed. Did not have any issues with my 1198.  As far as re-setting my graph to default I did not.

Is the unit on your boat when this is happening?
When you power up the unit and you see the disclaimer message, allow it to run for a minute before pressing any buttons and see if that helps.
You could try loading an even older version of software, how old is your 998 unit?

Well I got it fixed, I down loaded the 5.70 version and it stayed on with no issues. Then loaded the 6.180 version on its ok as well. So that is where it was prior to all this happening, with no issues.  Greg thank you for the input and having all the downloads on the site.

Just as you would on a Windows update. Downloaded to my card, installed.

That is more of a personal decision...... I treat a HB update just like a Windoze update..... I look carefully at the update information to see if I NEED the update.... only then will I apply the update.....

Of note though...... At least with Windoze you can almost always easily back out of an update with a simple restore..... You don't have to call them and ask for the back out....
 :-\

Edit: BTW..... I very seldom have to do a Windoze update...... Most of my computing is done using Free and open source LINUX... Because Windoze is a bloated virus.... ::)

Steve,

Glad you got it fixed.  That is why I started this site, to help with issues like this.  The downloads section is valuable resource and we try to keep them up to date so people can have access to the files they need.  The files are loaded directly to the site by either HB Greg or myself so you never have to worry about where or who a file came from.

Please let us know if we can help in the future.

Since 6.6 has been install, I noticed that the readouts on only the navigational screens only, do not reflect my readout menu choices. On all non navigation screens they show up correctly. What gives?

What is the earlier version number? Did you have to do anything special to reload it?

I went back to 6.18 also. The readings were back, but I noticed on the split navigational screens the cog or speed had to be moved to a different selection area to get them to readout, otherwise the temperature would be replaced by the cog or speed. But again on any non navigational screen it always appeared correct.

Some readout box readings are hard coded into the NAV views...(COG for instance)..

"HB decided" you want to see COG anytime a map is up...whether you want to see COG or not...
