I sent my 798 ci si in to Humminbird to get checked out.  Can i use my 747c with the compact transducer while I wait for the 798 to come back?  I know I can't get SI or DI, but will it work with the 200 kHz and 83 kHz portion of the transducer.

Db, 747 is a nice tool to use! I use mine next to a 1198 and a 1155.

I would not try the si transducer, the SI ducer produces a 180' beam and the 747 ducer has a much smaller cone type beam. I suspect that there would be too much return data for the 747 to process.

Don't know for sure maybe Greg can help?

Hope for a fast repair turnaround at HB repair!!

Diamondback,
Don't worry about the mismatch in performance potential between the 747 and a SI ducer. I have a Matrix 37 that has about the same features as the 747. Both can use a Quadrabeam ducer which is a kind of low resolution SI ducer. I have tested my M37 with the standard SI 160 and HDSI 180 ducers and got pretty nice sideimages when the unit was set to Quadrabeam. Range is limited to 150 feet, though and of course the image quality cannot compete with a dedicated SI unit.

I don't want to hurt the 747 plugging it into the transducer.  I have the transducer for the 747, but I do not want to take off the side scan transducer and put on the standard transducer for a couple of weeks.  I just need to get depth readings with the 747.  Thanks for the help  so far.

You won’t hurt the 747c unit or the CSi transducer if you connect and use them together.  If you use the DualBeam menu setting for the Transducer Select menu you will not even notice that the 747c is using anything other than the standard DualBeam transducer it ships out with.  This is because the CSi transducer that ships out with the 798ci Si units use the same internal elements for the same 200kHz and 83kHz sonar beams.

Thanks, that is the information I needed.  I will give it a try.

While you are giving that a try; go ahead and change over to the Quad Beam menu setting and try what Rickard did on his Matrix 37 unit.  Than post some Screen Snapshots of what the CSi transducer shows on the QuadBeam Views on your 747c unit!  ;)

I will do that the next time I am out with it.  The views will be more pix elated than with the 798.  I am spoiled now after using the 798.
