i-Pilot Link - NEW

Integrated GPS Trolling System

i-Pilot® Link enables your Minn Kota® trolling motor and Humminbird® fishfinder
to talk to each other. i-Pilot Link delivers automatic boat control and the
power to find, store and revisit your most productive fishing spots and tracks.
And you can take command of it all from either the wireless remote or the
Humminbird fishfinder. It's less time positioning your boat. More time catching
fish. Now you're talking.

Available: December 2012

It's All Coming Together

Together, Minn Kota & Humminbird give you the power of automatic boat control
and the ability to create, store and revisit productive spots and paths - all
while retaining the original i-Pilot functions. Add a LakeMaster digital GPS
map into your Humminbird and you can follow any depth contour you choose,
automatically, or cast to it from a set distance with Contour Offset. All with
unparalleled GPS accuracy.
It's the missing link to better fishing.

i-Pilot Link is compatible with Minn Kota Terrova, PowerDrive V2, Riptide ST and
Riptide SP bow-mount trolling motors.

i-Pilot Link is compatible with most Ethernet-equipped Humminbird fishfinder
units.

i-Pilot Link is compatible with i-Pilot Link enabled LakeMaster Digital GPS
Maps, which are necessary to perform the Follow The Contour function.

Do you think the 1197/997 will be able to be upgraded for the interface or will it be specific to the 98 series.

I know the literature right now says 98 series.

Cheers Mike

iPilot Link is connected via ethernet.

I doubt this will be available for the ?97 units.
There are legacy units and are pretty old now.

I don’t know what the final answer for the ’97 units is but right now all they are saying is for the ’98 units.  It is a matter of the Ethernet connection speed. The 1197 units is just not fast enough for this and some of the other new accessories.

Hey Greg,
Can I send you guys my 1197 and you can pop in a faster processor,
more and faster memory, and the new brighter in the sunlight screen.
For a fair price, I'd do it in a heart beat, if it were possible.

Maybe in the future, Humminbird would make this possible for older units.
You'd be way ahead of the competition if you ever made this a reality. ;)

Wish they would ITG but every time I ask about this I get turned down…

For future new unit design, if Humminbird could build them so that
the cpu, memory, and screen could just be popped out and easily
replaced/upgraded, this would be moving in an incredible direction.
Humminbird would be the first to do this.  Humminbird could warranty each
new part for a year.

User's could then keep their units longer, because the hardware
would be upgradable.  Humminbird would still profit, because they
would be selling the newer parts.  User's could easily replace the parts
themselves, or if they wanted, they could ship their units to Humminbird
to replace the parts (for a cost).

If the Humminbird engineers think this is a bad idea, then their morons.
Customer loyalty is what keeps companies in business.

My 1197c is getting old now.  I will be looking for a new unit next year.
I may switch to Lowrance if I think their stuff looks better.
If Humminbird had the option to upgrade parts on an existing unit, the thought
of switching brands wouldn't even enter my mind.

I wasn't aware the Lowrance upgraded their older systems either.

Nope, a lot of times they won't repair them either.

As far as I know, no sonar manufacturer does this.
Humminbird should step up and start designing their
units like this.  It would be the cutting edge.
It would also distance Humminbird way out from their competition.

Just think if you could keep the same sonar unit for 10+ years, with replacing
parts every couple of years, and still be using the latest technology available.
It would be a dream come true.
