Title: Networking 798 with 898?
Post by: Rotus623 on February 27, 2014, 03:19:01 PM
Hey fellers. I am gearing up for spring. Love my 898 at the console, but I would like to add a unit to the bow for bass fishing, and catching live bait with the trolling. I was wondering how the ethernet networking works.

I have a GPS puck connected to the 898, so if I network the 798 to the 898, would the GPS signal for the 798 come from the puck that goes into the 898, or the internal GPS on the 798?You can use one transducer when networking, correct? Just making sure before I take the plunge. And Lastly, when I change screens on one unit, does it automatically change screens on the second unit? I would think not.

Oh and by the way, they are both HD units.

In case someone else looks here for the answers:
The 798 unit will use whichever GPS Receiver you tell it to use.  I believe that it will automatically use its internal GPS Receiver and you will have to go into the network setup and tell it to use the external GPS Receiver of the 898 unit if that is what you want it to use.
One transducer can be used when the units are networked.
If you change the screen (View) on one unit it does not change it on the other unit(s).
