Hi All, I'm New here and to 'Birds and high quality electronics in general.

I have a new 859ci hd di purchased in april, the unit has been fantastic and I'm extremely happy with it, but I have a question/issue. When I run the unit in DI 800khz, the screen almost completely washes out, if you look really hard you can see the returns underneath, but it's almost completly white. My 455khz images I'm happy with.

 2D seems fine although since I added the splitter cable and xp 9 20 puck for high speed, I don't think the 2D images are quite as good and the first 1.5 ft or so of the display in 2D shows a line, is this normal after adding a shoot-thru xducer?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums stratos976.

It sounds like you may need to make some menu adjustments when you switch from the 455kHz DI sonar to the 800kHz DI sonar.  It is normal to have to do so as the two frequencies will react differently with the same water.

What DI transducer are you using with your 859ci HD DI unit?

The digital depth readout normally comes from the DI sonar on this unit unless you set the Digital Depth Source to the “2D Element” setting.  This is the only way that an inside-the-hull 2D transducer will help with the high-speed depth readings.  Of course you could also have installed the DI transducer inside-the-hull too and accomplished about the same thing.

Thanks for the quick response Greg!

Im using the standard XNT 9 DI T mounted to the transom. I added the AS SI DB Y and XP 9 20 shoot trough, and changed the setting to 2D element for digital depth source. Also in the main menu I selected  "DI 200/83"  as transducer type.

What settings might I have to adjust? I played with the sensitivity and DI Enhance, but it didnt seem to help eliminate the washout much. I ran sensitivity all the way down to 1. I took a screenshot of where I switched the unit from 455 to 800 to show the difference. I'll try to get it uploaded. I also called Humminbird Select CS, the lady on the phone was pretty helpful but said that this problem hasn't been reported and she'd put a not in about it.

That is not setting related stratos.  It looks like something is wrong with either the DI transducer or the unit.  No way to tell without testing your unit on another DI transducer or another DI unit on your transducer.  You could try connecting only the DI transducer to the unit and reset the menus to the factory defaults but I don’t think that will help any.

BTW: the menu settings you were using for the digital depth and transducer type were correct.

I should be able to check this with the 596c HD DI that I have on the bow, correct?

 I believe they both use the same DI transducer, obviously the cable collectors are different but I should be able to plug the power and transducer cables directly to the back of the units.

I'm having terrible interference with the 596 and my TM, but that's another topic I'll start separately.

Yes you can test the 859ci HD Di unit on your 596c HD DI transducer and power cable Andy but you will need to reset the 2D Element and Transducer Connected menus first.
