Title: newbie computer illiterate lol help
Post by: 1fireball on January 06, 2014, 10:47:49 PM
I have a 1198 maybe 4 months old. when I puchased the unit I installed a sandisk 30 ultra sd card. As a newbie I have done nothing but create waypoints and saved tracs and saved about 11- I tracs. I fish a bunch. I have saved all this data from about 7 different lakes and rivers to the humminbird I guess. Allot of way points have screen pictures. As I was scanning through something the other day I noticed a bar on the bottom that read 29.5% of 30. I dont know if the humminbird memory is about full or the sd card. I downloaded the humminbird pc to my pc but I have read a little about trouble with getting and keeping all the data available. I cannot afford to lose anything I have saved on the unit. I dont care what it takes but I need to make sure this data moving doesnt lose my valuable data Ive collected. If someone can tell me where to find the right path to do this thats what I need. If I need to buy a different program first thats ok also. I want to separate the lakes and rivers and clear the units memory if thats what I need to do. I am not good with .files and all this file talk so a step by step would be appreciated. I do not use a lake card. I have navionics I run on my phone while fishing. Thank you in advance:)

1fireball,

What size SD card do you have? 2,4,8,16 or 32 GB?  I doubt you have filled it up, but you may have.  I doubt you are going to lose any data unless you delete all your nav data on the unit itself.  The waypoints are stored on the unit.  What I recommend is export all your nav data.  It will be backed on the SD card.  Then you can copy the files over to your computer.  Give Humminbird PC a try, it is pretty good, and as long as you keep backup copies of your files, you should be ok.

What I recommend is reading up a little on specifically what you want to do and try different things.  There are all sorts of tutorials and detailed instructions here and on the Humminbird website.

Lets get your Nav data exported and copied over to your computer first, then we can go from there with working with Humminbird PC etc.

Good Luck,
